After studying at l´Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Mines de Nancy (France), Eric began his professional career on multiple financial services projects. In 2015, he joined Ares & Co with the desire to be more involved in all aspects of running a consultancy and to be at the centre of the business in Financial Services.
Eric, why did you choose to join the Ares & Co team?
During my initial interview phase, I was particularly attracted to the amount of responsibility placed on the shoulders of the team, even those more junior. Additionally, I wanted to work in an agile financial services focused consultancy that gave me the power to control which areas I focused on and the speed of my progression. It was promised that I would be involved across the entire spectrum of a project – from identifying the lead right through to delivery and follow up. Needless to say, from day one I was involved in all aspects of the firm and given all the support required to deliver. I was able to rely on senior team members across the firm for support and advice when needed. As long as you have the ambition to match, Ares & Co offers the team support and environment needed for anyone to succeed.
What are the main qualities that an employee needs in order to succeed at Ares & Co?
Clearly a certain level of critical awareness, hard work and attention to detail, along with a proven interest in finance, are expected. Those that will truly succeed at Ares & Co are those that are self-starters with a desire to really become famous of something. Whether that be a particular proposition or area within the industry, it is up to each of us to find that niche. In order to achieve this, you need to be able to build strong bonds with your colleagues through an understanding of our core values of integrity and excellence. You will be given access to a leadership team that has great experience across the whole sector, to succeed you should grasp this opportunity to learn with two hands and use this as a base to build your career from.
In your own words, how do you describe the work of a consultant?
Above all consultants need to be adaptable, critical and have an eye for detail. The nature of the job means that no two clients are that same and their problems come in many different shapes and sizes. Being able to adapt to each client´s needs, synthesize their issues in a critical manner, develop your hypotheses and, crucially, solve their problems is vital to what we do. Ares & Co consultants are encouraged to come up with their own ideas and original thought is fostered throughout. Teamwork is vital and the best outcomes are achieved by knowing when to rely on colleague´s expertise. The reward for your diligence is knowing that your work will directly impact the direction of some of our largest financial institutions and having the opportunity to be involved with complex clients and their problems from an early stage in your career.
